Obituary for Janice Ann Hurley

JANICE ANN HURLEY
1/19/1941 – 11/19/2020

Janice Ann (Hoglievina) Hurley, of Omaha, NE passed away Thursday, November 19, 2020. Janice was preceded in death by husband Robert “Bob”, parents Peter & Margaret Hoglievina, and her brother Norman. She is survived by other relatives, friends, and her Christ Community Church Family.

Janice’s parents met in San Francisco, married and had 2 children, Norman and Janice. Janice grew up in San Francisco where her mother was a seamstress. After graduating High School, Janice entered the work force at age 20. Remaining in California at age 26 Janice was married to Robert (Bob) Hurley, and by age 45 Janice had become a widow with the passing of Robert. Janice never remarried. Instead she spent time continuing to work and enjoying hobbies. One of her passions was model railroading.

While Janice lived a simple life she believed in being a hard worker and was loyal to whatever job she had. Starting in 1977 she started working for First Data Corporation in the San Francisco area. In 1996 she was transferred to the Omaha First Data Corporation offices where she worked as a credit card distribution handler. Janice retired from First Data Corporation in 2007. After 46 years in the workforce she stayed active volunteering at her church.

When Janice moved to Omaha in 1996, she sought out a Financial Advisor where she had some money saved up. Her new advisor inquired where she was going to church and upon finding out she didn’t have a church home he invited her to attend church at Christ Community Church. Janice fell in love with the social interaction at the church and the ministries offered through Christ Community Church and accepted Jesus Christ as her Savior in 1997. She enjoyed attending all the Musicals and Missions Ministries events. She also became active in attending Sunday School where she made many friends. Janice was drawn to the Missions offered through the church and desired to support Missionaries through the church. She also became very active in the Stamp Ministry and continued to be involved in the Stamp Ministry for the rest of her life. After retiring Janice became involved volunteering in the kitchen at the church to help provide meals that the church would prepare for different ministries. Janice so loved being active in her church and would share all her stories with her friends, mailing them updates on the activities in her church. Janice’s volunteering also included caring for and assisting a friend prior to and after moving into an assisted living facility. Janice’s heart was one of giving and serving. Well Done Janice, you truly were and are a Faithful Servant to Our Lord, Jesus Christ.
