Obituary for Eleanor B Thorson

THORSON, Eleanor B.
9/4/1925 – 7/9/2020

She was born on a farm east of Anoka, NE in the northeastern part of the state. Eleanor was the middle child, of five children, born to Oscar and Ida Kinman. She moved to Omaha with her family when she was a child. She attended Franklin Elementary School and Webster School and graduated from Technical High School in 1942.

She was employed at Nebraska Clothing Company (She was a receptionist/switchboard operator) until the time of her marriage. She married Robert Bruce Bardon of San Francisco on August 8th in 1945. They lived in California for six years before moving back to Omaha. They had three children: Linda, born in San Francisco, Gary, born in Pomona, Ca, Bill, born in Omaha. Her husband died in 1977, after several years of illness. She went to work in the accounting office, of Skyline Manor, where she worked for 12 years. She attended Augustana Lutheran Church and when she married Loren, she attended Christ Community Church. All her life she believed that Christ died for her sins but didn’t have the assurance of heaven until someone showed her the scripture of 1 John 5:11-13 “and this is the testimony: God has given us eternal life and this life is in his Son. He who has the Son has life…… I write these things to you who believe in the Son of God so that you may KNOW that you have eternal life." She is grateful that the Lord has taken her into His fold and she will spend eternity with Him.

On November 7th, 1981 she married Loren Thorson. He was a family friend from years back. Eleanor was best friends with his sister. They attended the same church at that time. Some of her interests besides her family and church are music, organ playing, she sang in the choir for many years. She played Skipbo with her Skipbo buddies for many years. She enjoyed crafts, Crocheting (She decorated over 300 pillow cases to be used as tote bags for children at the Open Door Mission) she especially enjoyed the stamp ministry. She was involved with it for over 20 years going to church on Fridays to tear stamps and working at home trimming the stamps. She enjoyed gardening, and she mowed her own lawn until she was 86 years old. She enjoyed reading and crosswords puzzles.

She had a collection of butterflies, and she loved the butterflies as she said they were a symbol of the new life she had in Christ. She was always delighted when the family came to visit especially on Sundays when Bill and Judy would stop after church and have lunch with her and other family gatherings for birthdays, ect. Seeing her grandchildren and great grandchildren was such an enjoyment to her.

Eleanor Thorson is preceded in death by her parents, Oscar and Ida Kinman; first husband, Robert Bardon; second husband, Loren Thorson; son, Gary Bardon; sister Arlene Thomsen; brothers, Virgil & Madeline, Orlan “Ted” and Marvin Kinman; step-son Glenn Thorson.
