Vivian Parrish

Vivian Noddings was born on October 6, 1927, in Royal, Nebraska, to Frank and Saloma Noddings. The youngest in her family, Vivian cherished her roots and enjoyed attending her class reunions over the years, celebrating memories with lifelong friends.

On October 22, 1949, Vivian married Rolland. Together they raised four sons: Gene, Lynn, Lee, and Raymond. A devoted mother, Vivian took pride in being a Cub Scout leader and was always actively involved in her boys’ lives.Vivian worked at the luncheon counter at Sears, where she was known for her friendly demeanor and strong work ethic. She was also a proud member of the Bensen Auxiliary and participated faithfully in the Bensen Loyalty Days Parade, often walking alongside fellow members in support of her community.

Her faith was a cornerstone of her life. Vivian was a dedicated member of her church, often found serving in the kitchen—either operating the dishwasher or clearing tables. She was also active in her church circle, attending monthly meetings and building meaningful relationships with fellow members.Family time was especially important to Vivian. She and Rolland created countless memories camping with their boys, and in their later years, they enjoyed wintering in Texas. True to her energetic spirit, Vivian began helping in the kitchen at the American Legion while in Texas and also picked up a new hobby—crocheting. Every spring, she would return home with a new pattern to try.

One of the most memorable experiences of Vivian’s life came at the age of 80, when she traveled to China with her son Lee, daughter-in-law Mary, and granddaughter Amie. The purpose of the trip was to adopt a second daughter for Lee and Mary. During this trip they welcomed Leah into the family. Vivian fondly recalled walking on the Great Wall of China, riding in a rickshaw, and meeting her newest granddaughter for the first time—memories she joyfully shared with others while living in assisted living.Vivian was endlessly proud of her family and loved introducing them to those around her. You could always hear her say, “This is my family.”Vivian was preceded in death by her parents and siblings.

She is lovingly remembered by her sons: Gene (Cathy), Lynn, Lee (Mary), and Raymond; and by her grandchildren: Mark, Scott, Kurt, Amie, and Leah Parrish. Her legacy of love, service, and family devotion will be cherished by all who knew her.
