William L Tomson

William (Bill) L. Tomson, 70, of LaVista, NE, passed away on May 27, 2025.
A Memorial Service honoring William L. Tomson will be held July 11, 2025, at Dundee Presbyterian Church, 5312 Underwood Ave. Omaha, NE. Rev. JD Georlett will officiate. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., and Memorial Services will begin at 2:00 p.m.

Internment will precede the memorial service on July 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at the Omaha National Cemetery, 14250 Schram Rd., Omaha, NE.

A Celebration of Life will be held July 13, 2025 at the Morning Sun Community Center, 106 N. Main St., Morning Sun, IA. beginning at 1:00 p.m.

Bill was born in Iowa City, Iowa on October 29, 1954. He graduated from Morning Sun High School, received a Bachelor’s Degree from University of Iowa, and a Master’s Degree in Business from Binghamton University State University of New York. He also held a Real Estate and Broker License in Nebraska.

William was married to Jill (Cunningham-Taylor) Tomson on July 9, 1994; they were married for over 30 years.

Bill proudly and honorably served his country as a member of the U.S. Air Force for 31 years. Bill served as an Electronic Warfare Officer on the RC135 airplane. He retired at the rank of Lt. Colonel. Upon retiring from active duty, he Worked for the US Government Civil Service as a Contracts Administrator at Offutt AFB and then later joined Defense Contract Management Agency serving as a Contracts Administrator.

Bill was an antique buff and owned two antique shops. Wild Horse Antiques in Plattsmouth NE and South Amana Mercantile in South Amana, Iowa. Bill was a man of many passions. He spent many hours researching his family’s genealogy and documenting the details he found from the hours and miles he spent investigating the family’s history. Bill was a “handy-man” and loved to work on improvement projects around his home and businesses. He was a collector of coins, stamps, election memorabilia, and rocks, all of which he would gladly display and discuss with anyone who had interest. He enjoyed creating stain glass items which would rival any artist’s work. Bill also enjoyed playing golf whenever the opportunity arose. He loved to help anyone and everyone in any way that he could. His warm, caring, smiling, jovial nature endeared him to all who were privileged to know him.

Bill was a member of the Acacia Fraternity at the University of Iowa. He was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan and supporter. He and his family attended Dundee Presbyterian Church in Omaha, NE.

William is survived by his loving wife, Jill, his step-son Christopher Ryan Taylor (LaVista, NE), his brothers Douglas Tomson (Salem, IA.), James (Dawn) Tomson (Salem, IA), his sisters Charlotte (John) Peck (Fairfield, IA), Betty (Terry) Oosthoek (Colorado Springs, CO), his sister-n-law Carol Tomson (Jct. City, KS), 14 nieces and nephews who all adored their “Uncle Bill”, many grand nieces and nephews, great-grand nieces and nephews, several cousins and innumerous friends.

William was preceded in death by his parents, Kelly and Martha Tomson, his in-laws, Ray and Lois Cunningham, and his brother Kenneth Tomson.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the family or Dundee Presbyterian Church, Omaha, NE. The family of William L. Tomson wishes to thank Dale Adams, the Members of the Class of 1973 from Morning Sun High School, and our extended family members for the love, support and encouragement shown during this difficult time.
