Stephen L. Lawrence

Stephen L. Lawrence, 79, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away the morning of July 7, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born on October 13, 1945 in Lincoln, Nebraska to Leonard and Charlotte Lawrence.
Steve graduated from Bellevue High School and went on to earn a bachelor’s degree of music in education as well as two master’s degrees from the University of Nebraska, and a PhD from the University of Iowa. He worked as an instrumental music teacher at Burke High School, and then as a music administrator for the Omaha Public Schools. Steve was also the choir director at Bethel Lutheran Church for 49 years.
Steve was known by many for his passion for music, quick wit, love for dogs and dog agility, and dedication to his family. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Bonny Lawrence; his children, Stephanie Dunn (Doug) and Justin Lawrence (Tammi); his grandchildren, Evelyn, Emmett and Elliott; his sisters Jari Houston and Jeanne Snowden; brother-in-law Ron Beideck; sister-in-law Marilyn Sloan; and many nieces and nephews. Steve is preceded in death by his eldest son Clinton, his sister Judy Dyer and his parents, Leonard and Charlotte Lawrence.
A Celebration of Steve’s life will be held at Bethel Lutheran Church (1312 S. 45th Street, Omaha, NE 68106) on Saturday, July 12th at 11:00 am.
