Obituary for John "Jack" Hynes

Hynes, John E. “Jack”
January 18, 1960 – January 9, 2020

John “Jack” Hynes was born on January 18, 1960, to Edmund and Josephine Hynes. Jack was born in Brooklyn, NY, where he spent his early childhood before moving to Omaha, NE, in 1963. In 1978, he graduated from Ralston High School. Jack earned a bachelor’s degree in Biology and Chemistry from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He went on to work at Schering-Plough and then spent his last 15 years working for the City of Omaha. Throughout his life, Jack volunteered for various organizations such as his Neighborhood Association, Omaha’s Madonna School, Special Olympics, and coached youth hockey, baseball, and volleyball teams.

Jack married Amy Toye on June 26, 1993. The couple has three children, Allyssa, Joscelyn, and Jonathan. Jack put his family first in all regards, teaching his children the importance of family, caring for others, education, and accountability. In his pastime, Jack was an avid outdoorsman. He loved to garden, watch Husker Volleyball, golf with friends, spend summer nights at the College World Series, and take family trips. He will be remembered for his smiling blue eyes, his love for Tom Petty, his tell-all smirk, and his pride for his children.

On January 9, 2020, Jack passed peacefully in his home of cancer, surrounded by his wife, children, and dog.

Preceded in death by parents, Edmund and Josephine (Pearson) Hynes.
