Dennis J. Anderson, age 60, passed away on October 13, 2026. He was born on October 14, 1965, in Austin, Minnesota to Gaylord (Andy) and Linda Anderson. Despite being in Vikings territory, he was raised to be the biggest Green Bay Packers fan – a lifelong passion that carried a roller-coaster of emotions.
In middle school, Dennis and his family moved to Fremont, Nebraska where he attended school, played football, and graduated from Fremont High School in 1984. This is where he met the love of his life, Michele Chapman, in Accounting class.
After high school, Dennis headed for the Florida Institute of Technology, but as you can imagine, too much fun was had, and he then transferred to Bridgewater State University in Massachusetts where he obtained his bachelor’s degree in Geology. However, this time, his new bride, Michele, joined him after they were married in Fremont on September 5, 1987.
After spending 2 years in Massachusetts, Dennis and Michele moved back to Nebraska, settling down in Omaha. Dennis began his career at GSI, Inc. Later, he spent 27 years as a leader at Thiele Geotech, Inc. and simultaneously went back to school at University of Nebraska at Lincoln for his civil engineering degree. Impressively holding both a Professional Geologist (PG) and a Professional Engineer (PE) license in Nebraska, he started his own consulting firm in 2016 before becoming the Director of Operations for Tetra Tech and eventually taking on his latest role as a Principal Senior Environmental Engineering Consultant at Terracon. He stayed involved in his community by serving on various boards, most notably the National Association of State Boards of Geology (ASBOG), where he received the Charles R. Sherman award in 2019, and most recently, the 2026 James Hutton Lifetime Service Award highlighting his exceptional service and dedication to the profession of Geology.
Dennis and Michele were married for 39 years, which included numerous fun vacations, golf outings, country dancing, and a lot of focus on being wonderful parents for their two children, Caitlin and Carter. Over the years, time spent shifted from watching show choir, soccer, and golf tournaments to perfecting steaks on the charcoal grill for his family – now including his son-in-law, Adam, daughter-in-law, Brittany, and his cherished granddaughters, Hallie, Harper, and Macy.
Dennis was happiest when laughing with his family, riding his motorcycle with the Wild Dogz, taking in early mornings either on the green or in the duck blind, or simply relaxing with his wife. His laugh was infectious, and his larger-than-life personality naturally drew people to him. To know him, was to love him. And to meet him, was to have a friend for life. He will be deeply missed by all who were lucky enough to be in his orbit.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Andy and Linda (Iverson) Anderson, and his father-in-law, Martin Chapman.
He is survived by his loving wife, Michele Anderson; daughter, Caitlin (Adam) Schmit, and granddaughters, Hallie and Macy; son, Carter (Brittany) Anderson, and granddaughter, Harper; mother-in-law, Catherine Chapman; brother, David (Sherri) Anderson; sister, Debbie (Darrell) Uttecht; brothers- and sisters-in-law, Chris and Janet Larsen, Steve and Deb Vonderfecht, and Marty and Monica Pfannes; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the family will be given to Glioblastoma Foundation in memory of Dennis, aiming to fund research and develop new therapies and targeted treatments. CLICK HERE, to make a donation.
