Obituary for Charles L. "Charlie" Pribble

Charlie Pribble was born on February 20, 1942 to Clarence O. and Gladys Fern (Balsar) Pribble in Quincy, Illinois. He had one sister, Kay. He is preceded in death by his parents and his sister. His elementary school years were spent in a 3-room country school before going to Payson, Illinois for the consolidated junior and senior high school.

Charlie spent his entire working career in the golf course business. He started with a summer job in 1958 while still in high school by working on a golf course maintenance crew in his home town. He remained there for one year after high school graduation in 1960. In the fall of 1961, he enrolled at Iowa State University where he majored in Turf Grass Management. In the spring of 1963, he was placed at Happy Hollow in Omaha as an intern where he was eventually hired as an assistant superintendent. Over the course of his career, he held the golf course superintendent positions at courses in Quincy, Illinois; Waterloo, Iowa; and Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he was also instrumental in the design and building of a 27 hole golf course. During his years in Iowa, he served as President of the Iowa Golf Course Superintendents Association and earned many awards as a distinguished superintendent.

He did have time for one extra curricular interest, that of skeet shooting. That interest gave him many fun weekends shooting registered targets and earning the reputation of being a tough competitor, winning many awards.

Charlie and Ranella were high school sweethearts, starting their dating years during their senior year of high school. Their first date was the result of Charlie losing a bet with his best friend. They flipped a coin to see who would get to ask the more favored of two girls to a school function. The friend won the coin toss and Charlie ended up with Ranella instead of the favored girl. Each went their own way to college after high school graduation and were married on December 7, 1963. They are the proud parents of one son, Chuck, and now enjoy his family which was the reason for their moving to Omaha in 2011.

Survived by his wife of 57 years, Ranella Pribble; Son Chuck Pribble & wife Stephanie; Granchildren: Conner, Bailey & Rylan Pribble; Many other relatives and friends.
