Obituary for Edna Mae Bonney

Edna Mae Bonney, age 79, passed away Friday, April 26, 2019 at Methodist Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska surrounded by her family.

Edna was born October 23, 1939, to Pete and Edna (Livermore) Petersen in Omaha, Nebraska. She attended Irvington High School and graduated in 1958.

After graduation Edna worked as a claim adjuster for All State Insurance Company. Edna married Gerald on July 18, 1959 and lived in Omaha where Edna was a wife and mother. Throughout the years Edna worked for the Brandeis party plan and became a District Manager for the House of Lloyd company where she earned several reward trips.

Edna treasured her roles as wife, mother, grandmother and friend to many. Edna spent countless hours volunteering for her children as a 4-H Leader, Horse Club Leader, and Room Mother. Edna also spent hours at County Fairs and Horse Shows watching her children compete.

Edna’s greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren rarely missing any of their school activities or athletic events no matter how far she had to travel. She became known as Grandma to many students, volleyball players and softball players throughout the years.

Edna had a talent for crafts of all kinds, including ceramics, sewing, doll making and a passion for building miniature houses and displays. Edna was a member of the Omaha/Council Bluffs Miniature Guild where she served in several officer positions, was the State Representative for N.A.M.E. and co-chairperson of The State Day Committee.

Edna spent hours researching her family genealogy and scrapbooking her family history leaving a legacy that will be cherished by her family for many years.

Preceded in death by her parents, Pete and Edna (Livermore) Petersen, two sisters, Kyle Engelhardt and Jeanine Dunn and brother Kenneth Petersen.

Survived by her husband of nearly 60 years, Gerald Bonney; daughter: Tammy (Jim) Knight, sons: Jerry Lee (Jodie) and Kevin (Tracy) Bonney; grandchildren: Justin Bonney, Alanah Bonney, Ashley Knight, Jacob Bonney, Taylor Knight, Blake Jackson, and Quinn Bonney; 3 great grandchildren; brother, Terry (Nancy) Petersen of West Point, Nebraska; and sisters Karen (Larry) Arp of Bennington, Nebraska and Donna VanBuren of Omaha, Nebraska; long-time friends, Johnnie and Jayne Dunn; as well as several nieces, nephews, and friends.

We are grateful for our family and friends that have prayed for Mom during her hospital stay. We are most grateful for a God who continually gives us strength and gave His Son so we have that incredible hope of eternity.
