Bill was born July 11, 1931 in Petersburg, NE and passed away on April 16 at the age of 83. A beloved husband, father and grandfather, Bill is survived by his wife of 55 years, Jeanette Dinslage Wirges, four children: Kim (Brad) Hayworth, Kent (Kelley) Wirges, Kelly (Randy) Shoults and Karla (Dan) Stocker, 15 grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three great grandchildren, three great grandchildren on the way, one brother (Richard Wirges, wife Linda) and two sisters (Patricia, husband Melvin Selting; Mary, husband John Harrison), as well as many friends and relatives. Bill was preceded in death by parents William Sr. and Alice Sullivan Wirges of Elgin, NE. Bill graduated St. Boniface High School in 1949 and was president of Wirges Homes for 20 years in Omaha, NE. Bill served in Korea with the US Air Force 1952-1953 and was discharged from the service in 1956. He was Post Commander of American Legion Post 229 in Elgin, NE, Commander of VFW Post in Elgin, NE, Commander 374 in Millard (60 year member) and President Korean War Veterans Association of NE, Chapter #1. He was a life member 18th Fighter Wing Association, Knights of Columbus and a member Millard VFW 8334, and an active member of the Millard Funeral Honor Detail and Cursillo. Bill also served for a few years in the hospital visitation ministry. Rosary Recitation Sunday, Braman Mortuary, Southwest Chapel 3:00 PM followed by visitation until 5:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM, Monday at St. Stephen the Martyr Catholic Church, 16701 S Street, Omaha, NE with military honors by Millard AL 374 & VFW 8334.
