Virginia Lee Banks, age 89, of Northfield, MN, died on December 11, 2010 at the Northfield Retirement Community. Virginia was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 29, 1920, the daughter of Benjamin Samuel and Edith Violet (Johnson) Hadad. She was united in marriage to Harold R. Banks in 1940 and they made their home in many parts of the U.S., including many years in Omaha. Her final years were spent in Northfield, MN at the Northfield Retirement Community. Virginia’s love for her family and friends shaped everything she did in her long life. She was a telephone switchboard operator, owned and operated boarding houses, was a quality inspector for General Electric, managed a small restaurant, was an accountant for a small business, supervised the front desk of the University of Minnesota Hospital Oncology Dept. and created a successful bakery business out of her home. She also teamed up with Harold to operate an 18-wheeler over the road for several years. Survivors include her son, Warren E. (Carol) Banks of Apple Valley, Minnesota and daughter, Hallie R. (Allyn) Spicer of Harlan, Iowa; sisters June Pierce of Mundelein, Illinois and Lyla (Tony) Palmieri of Bradenton, Florida; brothers Warren Hadad of Antioch, Illinois and Ben (Margaret) Hadad of Houston, Texas; 8 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husband Harold Banks and son William Banks. Funeral services Friday, (12/17/2010), 10:00AM with family receiving friends at 9:30AM at Braman Mortuary, (72nd St. Chapel). Interment will be at the Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Omaha.
