In Loving Memory of Virgil Roger Lienemann
Virgil Roger Lienemann, age 85, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on November 29, 2025 surrounded by the love of his family. Born to John and Lena (Hartog) Lienemann, Virgil was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Virginia. He is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Marilyn; sister Vivian Zimmerman of Beatrice; children Randy (Karen) Lienemann of Omaha, Michelle (Scott) Dewey of York, Denise (Chris) Olson of Omaha, and Cory (Nancy) Lienemann of Omaha, 18 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Born on February 22, 1940, in Beatrice, Nebraska, Virgil grew up on a small farm in rural Adams with his older sisters, where he learned the value of hard work. He graduated from Adams High School in 1957. After graduation, Virgil joined the Army National Guard, serving for 6 years. In 1959, he began a 52-year trucking career, eventually running his own trucking company. Known by his CB handle “Lefty,” he was highly respected and well-liked by his fellow drivers and colleagues.
In June 1961, Virgil married the love of his life, Marilyn Phyllis Klein, in Adams, Nebraska. They settled in Adams, moving to the nearby town of Cook in 1965, Osceola in 1967, and finally settling in York in 1973, where they raised four children. Their home was filled with friends, laughter, spirited conversation, and a passion for camping, fishing, boating, and traveling.
Virgil and Marilyn moved to Omaha in 1990 after their children had grown. Over the years, they were able to travel to all 50 states and several countries. They spent innumerable hours with their grandchildren. Virgil particularly enjoyed one-on-one time with his children and grandchildren, particularly if they joined him on his over-the-road trips.
Virgil was baptized and confirmed at American Lutheran Church in Adams. He was also a longtime member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church in York, Messiah Lutheran in Ralston, and St Paul’s Lutheran in Omaha, where he sang in the choir and ushered. Virgil made friends easily and loved connecting with people over coffee, cards, or breakfast. In his later years, he found camaraderie in his Pitch playing group at St Paul’s.
Virgil will be most remembered for his love of travel, fishing, card playing, his sharp intellect, and his directness. He and Marilyn enjoyed many cruises and land trips, always eager to learn about different people and cultures. Virgil was never shy about sharing his opinions and engaging in lively conversation.
As we say goodbye, we honor Virgil’s memory by carrying forward his directness, love, laughter, and thirst for learning. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
