Thomas Andrew Jones passed away peacefully surrounded by family at the Emerald Nursing & Rehab Legacy Pointe in Omaha, NE on August 29, 2025, at 64 years of age.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents, Denzel “Denny” and Dolores “Dee” Jones. He is survived by his wife, Patricia “Trish” son, Anthony “Tony” daughter, Taylor, stepsons, Kim (Erin) Edwards and Chris Edwards. Sisters, Laurie Jones, and Nancy (Tim) Elder, two step grandchildren, several cousins and family dog, Juniper.
On a sunny afternoon almost 65 years ago their youngest of three children and only son was born to Denny and Dee Jones on September 26, 1960.
Tom inherently grew up a sports fan particularly hockey as the Jones family were season ticket holders and Boosters to the Omaha Knights hockey team. As a youngster, Tom taught himself how to ice skate and joined a youth hockey league. He dedicated himself to 5 a.m. practices, (I know this because I had to drive him there) he rarely missed a game and skated at every opportunity. Even though the NHL remained elusive, Tom played intermittently through adulthood (and was actually pretty good) he would also referee league games too. Tom’s favorite NHL teams were the NY Rangers and Chicago Blackhawks, but in addition to hockey, he was an avid, lifelong, and loyal Husker football fan, die hard Chicago Cubs fan and was forever devoted to his KC Chiefs.
Tom attended Burke High School, served in the US Navy while stationed in San Diego and later studied construction and accounting at Metro Tech Community College. Tom always had an entrepreneurial spirit and aspired to being his own boss. He was a bar owner for a few years and prospered for a while with his own siding and roofing company. He was a skilled and experienced construction worker and prior to his diagnosis, Tom enjoyed the rewarding work he did with Habitat for Humanity.
Another love of Tom’s life, besides his family, was his Harley Davidson. He loved being on the road riding his bike. Whether it be a group ride, just him and Trish or riding solo. He loved the rush of the wind at his back.
Brain cancer abruptly disrupted his life and unmercifully stole his future, but Tom’s spirit will live on in our hearts and his legacy will be kept alive through his children, Tony, and Taylor. He will be deeply missed and always remembered.
A private Celebration of Life will be held on what would have been Tom’s 65th birthday, Friday, September 26. 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorials given to the family will be used in Tom's memory at a later date.
