Terry Hurlbert passed away September 29, 2026 at the age of 74. Terry was born in Wakefield Nebraska to Vernie and Mernie Hurlbert. He was a surprise baby as his twin brother, Gerry, was born first and a few minutes later Terry arrived. Surprise!! You have twins. The unsuspecting parents had no idea. The boys were welcomed to the family by their big sister Karen.
He spent his growing years in the Carroll/Wayne area graduating from Wayne High School. He joined the Army in the early 70's which sparked his life long love of military and all things medical. After leaving the military, he earned both his bachelors and masters in health care administration. His final position was Director of Imaging at a medical center in the Denver area. He was loved and respected by both bosses and employees. Terry consistently had the highest employee satisfaction scores at his facility, with many employees following him from his previous workplace to his new team.
He and his wife, Paula, were married in 1980. They welcomed two children, Matthew and Melissa. The majority of their married life was spent in the Denver area. They moved to Omaha after retirement to be closer to children and grandchildren.
Once in Omaha, he connected with the American Legion Rider's group where he could combine his love of country and motorcycles. He made several trips to Sturgis for the annual motorcycle rally.
His greatest joy was watching his grandchildren grow.
Terry was preceded in death by his parents, his identical twin brother Gerry, his brother-in-law Larry and nephew Dion. He is survived by his wife Paula; children Matthew (Mary) and Melissa (Joe) along with grandchildren Audrey, Charlotte, Harrison, Samuel, Josephine, and Alexander; sister Karen and sister-in-law Cindy in addition to numerous nieces and nephews. He will be missed by all. He is also survived by his son, Jeremy, from a previous marriage.
Terry was so courageous in his last several years as he battled Lewy Body Dementia and all of its associated conditions. He never gave up and maintained his quick wit. He was loved by his care givers. Many were able to get that elusive smile that could be hidden from others. This was especially true at the Eastern Nebraska Veteran's Home where he lived his last months. His family is so grateful for the care that he received while residing there.
