Stuart C Lynn

Stuart Colyer Lynn passed away peacefully of heart failure in Kansas City, Missouri on December 10, 2025 at the age of 86. He was born in Cedar Falls, Iowa on January 11, 1939. His parents, Samuel Arthur Lynn and Pearl Lynn (Scism), moved from Cedar Falls with young Stuart to Omaha, Nebraska in the late 1940s. Stuart graduated from Central High school in 1957. He then joined the United States Army and served Active Duty for three years during which he completed over twenty parachute training jumps in the United States and West Germany. He enrolled in a Bachelors degree program at Omaha University (now UNO) in 1960 and graduated in 1964. He was accepted into the U. S. Army’s Officer Candidate School (OCS) during the Summer of 1964. He completed the program in 1967 and was offered a commission as 2nd Lieutenant of Artillery which he accepted. During OCS he spent time on the Korean Peninsula along the Military Demarcation Line (MDL) which ran through the middle of the Demilitarized Zone.

Spiritually, he was a man of Christian faith. Trinity Cathedral Episcopal Church was his center of worship. He would meet his bride-to-be, Catherine Van Scoy, at Trinity. They were married in 1964. They would remain married until Catherine’s passing in 2018. Stuart continued his public service as an Army Reservist until his retirement in the late 1980s as the head of the Military History Detachment in Omaha. He also worked for the U. S. Government’s Occupational Safety and Health Administration as an investigator until he retired 2004. Stu’s love for storytelling was exhibited during his many years as a Boy Scout leader. He was Assistant Scoutmaster and Scoutmaster of Troop 97 for a number of years during the late 1970s and 1980s. His love for camping, canoeing and camaraderie was ever present during the upbringing of his two children, Matthew (b. 1967) and Brian (b. 1971). Stuart was loved by all who crossed his path. He had a boisterous voice that mixed military commands with artistic expression. His sense of humor was a mixture of American Midwestern anecdotes, British humor (Monty Python), Bugs Bunny and Bullwinkle cartoons and an inherited sense of puniness that he picked up from his father, Samuel Arthur Lynn (1894 - 1971). He was exemplary in his ability to navigate familial relationships as a son, husband, father and grandfather.

Stuart C. Lynn is survived by his two sons Matthew and Brian and his four grandchildren Duncan, Cameron, Cody and Aria. He was preceded in death by his parents Samuel Arthur Lynn and Pearl Lynn (Scism), his paternal aunts Lucille and Rose Gannon and his wife Catherine Anne Lynn (Van Scoy).

A Visitation and Celebration of Life event will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on December 21st at Braman Mortuary (1702 N 72nd St., Omaha, Nebraska.) His cremated remains will be interred alongside Catherine’s at 9 a.m. on December 22, 2025 with full military honors by the U.S. Army at the Omaha National Cemetery (14250 Schram Rd, Omaha, Nebraska.)
