Sonya Rae Otte

It is with profound sadness and a deep sense of loss that we announce the peaceful passing of Sonya Edgington Otte on September 17, 2026, surrounded by her beloved family and friends. Born on March 6, 1966, in Rock Island, Illinois, Sonya was the cherished daughter of Vernon and Janie Edgington. Her vibrant spirit and compassionate heart touched the lives of everyone she met.

Sonya was a proud graduate of Westside High School in Omaha, Nebraska, and spent a year at the University of Nebraska's Lincoln campus. Her professional career was a testament to her kind and outgoing nature, as she always found herself in roles that centered around customer service. Sonya's genuine warmth and dedication to helping others made her an invaluable presence in every endeavor she undertook.

On June 21, 2003, Sonya married the love of her life, Dave Otte, at a beautiful ceremony in Omaha, Nebraska. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Zachary and Jacob, sharing countless memories and instilling in them the values of kindness and perseverance that Sonya so effortlessly embodied. Though she faced the heart-wrenching loss of her son Jacob, as well as her father Vernon and sister Rhonda Baldwin, Sonya's resilience and positive outlook served as an inspiration to all.

Her surviving family, including her devoted husband, Dave; her son Zachary and girlfriend Ceili; her beloved mother Janie; and her brother Bryant and sister-in-law Joellen & loved extended family, continue to celebrate her legacy of love and laughter.

Sonya had a passion for life that was evident in her many interests. She cherished her time spent with friends, camping under the stars & cheering on the Huskers and Kansas City Chiefs—especially after the much-talked-about Travis and Taylor pairing! Sonya also had a fondness for online shopping, always seeking out the perfect find for those she loved.

A devoted mother and a friend to all, Sonya's caring and giving nature, coupled with her infectious laughter, were her hallmarks. She had a remarkable ability to find joy and humor in every situation, ensuring that her tears were often those of laughter rather than sorrow.

A celebration of Sonya's life will be held on October 8, 2026 at Braman Mortuary, located at 6505 S. 144th Street, Omaha, NE 68137. The family will receive visitors from 4-5:30pm with the life service to begin at 5:30. Friends and family are invited to join in honoring her memory. For those unable to attend in person, a livestream of the service will be available at https://www.bramanmortuary.com/obituaries.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in Sonya's name to the Stephen Siller Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Paralyzed Veterans of America, organization's close to her heart.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the compassionate staff at Nebraska Cancer Specialists and the Methodist Health Systems, as well as the countless friends and family members who offered their love, prayers, and support throughout Sonya’s journey.

Sonya's legacy will forever be a beacon of light and love, reminding us all to embrace life with kindness, laughter, and an open heart.
