Roosevelt Dale, Sr., age 82, died at a local hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, on July 19, 2014, of natural causes. Born March 25, 1932, in Holmes County, Mississippi, to James and Annie C. Dale. He grew up in Tchula, Mississippi, and also spent time in Waterloo, Iowa. He eventually settled down in Omaha, Nebraska, in about 1953. On March 3, 1954, Roosevelt married Willie Mae Bowman. Together they raised six children and played a significant role in raising two of their grandchildren. They also opened their home to young relatives and friends starting to make their own way in the world. After losing his loving wife of 49 years, Roosevelt subsequently married Vanness Ivory in 2004. They enjoyed ten loving and devoted years with each other, before he was called to his eternal home.Roosevelt’s interests included playing local baseball in a North Omaha league in the late 1950’s and coaching a neighborhood boy’s baseball team in Kountze Park in the mid 1970’s. He loved to grow impressive produce in his home garden, and his favorite “activity” was sitting on a quiet bank, watching the scenery, and waiting for signs of a nibble on his fishing poles. Roosevelt was baptized at an early age and has been a faithful and loyal member of St. Mark Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving as a deacon and trustee since the early 1960s. Roosevelt is preceded in death by Willie Mae (Bowman) Dale, first wife; brothers, Earl, Artis, Ezell, Henry & Kato Wash; sister, Myrtis Lee Brown Survived by wife, Vanness Dale; children: Tammy Dale, Roosevelt (Cynthia) Dale, Jr., Regina Dale, Dwayne Dale, Saundra (Terry) Bickford & Ronald (Christine) Dale; 13 grandchildren: LaTosha (Greg) Bruce; Keshia Finney; Leah Dale; Saphire (Davy) Vargas; Harrison Dale; Hanna Noel; Malakai and Malique Dale; Kaitlyn Dale; Trinity, Colyn, Siobhan, and Dwayne Bickford; 2 great grandchildren; DeShawn Finney and Ava Dale; brother, Willie Wash; sisters, Betty Mae Green & Lonnie Ray Dale; step-daughters: Jacqueline (Vince) Smith and Sherry (Lonnie) Nelson; nieces nephews, cousins and host of other loving relatives.
