Richard Fred 'Jake' Jacoby

June 13, 1930 — August 24, 2014

Richard F. Jacoby (Jake) Born in Grand Island, Nebr. on Friday the 13th, 1930, to Jacob H. (Fritz) and Glovis Pauline (Stahlnecker) Jacoby. The family moved to Omaha in 1942 where Richard attended Henry W. Yates and Saunders Grade Schools, then Technical High School. Richard was employed by Safeway Stores, Inc. Richard served in the U. S. Army during the Korean conflict as a radar instructor for 1 year at Fort Bliss, El Paso, TX. and 1 year at Fort Sill, Lawton, Oklahoma; and, due to unexpected surgery he missed being shipped overseas by two days. After release from the service, he attended and graduated from DeVry Technical Institute studying electronics. He began work with Dictaphone Corp. in August 1955 and retired August 1986 as District Service Manager. He did take a short hiatus and owned and operated a laundry/dry cleaning business from 1960 to 1966. He was a Boy Scout Master for Troop 7 in Benson from 1961 thru 1966 although he was the only Dad in the entire troop who had no sons, only girls at home. Richard married Gloria Mae Hedvall, daughter of Oscar, Jr. and Mae (Baltz) Hedvall on April 10, 1949 and celebrated 65 anniversaries. They travelled a great deal on genealogy trips back east searching out family. Richard was a 61 yr. member of the American Legion post #112 and a member of the Shrine for several years. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Gloria, Daughter Jan Lynnae Meister and husband Arnold H., daughter Jill Leslie Mihulka and husband Frank J., grandchildren, Samantha Marie Meister and Sean Michael Meister, Elizabeth Renee (Lisa) Mihulka and fiancé Mitchell Wulf, Rachel Anne Mihulka and David James Mihulka; one great grandson, Landon Mitchell Wulf, as well as a brother James M. & Mary (Miller) Jacoby, two nephews, David M., and Michael J. Jacoby, and beloved furry friend Shelby. Predeceased by nephew Daniel M. Jacoby.
