Orva 'Mae' Sudduth

Mae was born on July 29, 1921 in Wisner, Nebraska to Simon and Agnes (Malchow) Meeske and passed awayMay 21, 2016 in Bennington, Nebraska.Mae was the 8th of 12 children and was preceded in death by her parents and 11 siblings Dorothea Behrens, Arthur Meeske, Bernitha Breitkruetz, Walter Meeske, Leona Carsten, Alvera Kort, Alverna McBride, Ruth Duncan, Iva Dell Osterndorff, Mary Artherton, and Donald Meeske. After Mae graduated from Wisner High School she married Donald Sudduth in 1940. While her husband served in the Navy during WWII, Mae returned to the family farm in Wisner with her two young sons Richard and David.After the War, Mae and her family spent some time in Weeping Water, Nebraska before moving to Greeley, Colorado for several years. The Sudduth family then returned to Omaha, Nebraska where Mae has lived for over 60 years. Mae was married to Donald Sudduth for over 60 years until his passing in 2004. Mae and Don were proud of being one of several founding families ofSt. Mark Lutheran Church on 90th St in Omaha. Mae and Don were very involved in many activities at St. Mark which also included the Ladies Auxiliary, Square Dancing, Pinochle, etc.Mae was employed by Sears for many years at the Cross Roads Shopping center. The auxiliary support group at Immanuel Hospital was another organization receiving active support from Mae. Mae is survived by her five children Richard (Ardie) Sudduth, David (Kim) Sudduth, Dennis (Sherry) Sudduth, Stanley (Cindy) Sudduth, and Zoe (Lanny) Kuester, 15 grandchildren,14 great grandchildren and 30 nieces and nephews. Mae loved to garden in addition to being a good cook. Her cherry pies with a crust that would melt in your mouth remains one of her specialties that are still discussed with a certain amount of awe. Mae’s loving dedication to her children and her special consideration of friends made her easily liked by everyone who knew her. She will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
