Norma Jean Green, 81, passed away peacefully Wednesday, November 5, 2025 at Immanuel Hospital in Omaha, NE while surrounded by family.

Norma Jean was born October 25, 1944 in Norfolk, NE to Raymond and Dorothy (Synovek) Altwine. Norma Jean graduated from Pierce High School in 1963.

Norma Jean grew up in Pierce, Nebraska and lived next door to James (Jim) Green. They officially began dating in 1962. On May 17, 1964 Norma Jean married her lifelong friend and partner in crime in Pierce, Nebraska. They began their married life moving around while Jim served in the U.S. Army before settling in Lincoln, NE in 1969. They remained side by side for 77 years while being married for 61 glorious years.

Norma Jean and Jim became the parents to two beautiful and loving children, Cathy and CJ. Norma Jean was an amazing wife, mother, mother-in-law and grandmother. She had a great love and pride for her family, especially her grandchildren.

Norma Jean served as an administrative assistant in the Psychology department at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) for over 30 years. Prior to retiring from UNL Norma Jean was honored to be nominated and ultimately receive the Sue Tidball Award for Creative Humanity. This award identifies and honors people from the campus who are recognized by their peers as making a significant contribution to the development of a humane, open, caring, educationally creative and just community on the UNL campus. Norma Jean loved the students she worked with and enjoyed making collages with the pictures she received from all the students that came and went over the years, many of which would keep in contact after her retirement.In 2000, Norma Jean and Jim retired to Branson, Missouri where she spent 20 years working in merchandise at Silver Dollar City.Norma Jean loved being around people and together she and Jim amassed a fabulous group of friends. She was loved by everyonewho was lucky enough to know her. One of the last things she said was that she wanted to be remembered as being graceful.

In May 2025, Norma Jean and Jim moved to Omaha, Nebraska to be closer to their family and spend more time with their grandchildren. Norma Jean loved watching old westerns, putting together puzzles, reading novels and spoiling her dog, Bentley.The last six months she has enjoyed living near two small ponds watching the ducks, geese, bunnies and other wild life roam about.

Norma Jean was proceeded in death by her parents; her brother Gary; and granddaughter Claire Jean Green.

Survivors include: husband Jim of Omaha; daughter CathyGreen and partner Chris Miller of Oregon; son CJ and wife Amanda of Omaha, NE; granddaughter Mabel Green and significant other Camden Baxter; grandson Samuel Green.

Per Norma Jean’s wishes, no services will be held.
