Mitchel Alicea

February 19, 1958 — April 28, 2020

Mitchel was born February 19, 1958 in Brooklyn, New York, and passed away April 28, 2020, at his home in Omaha, Nebraska. Mitchel was raised by his Father Elurio, and beloved Grandmother Juana Vazquez Serrano in Brooklyn until her death in the early 1970’s. Mitchel then moved to Wahoo, Nebraska to live with his brother, and eventually the family of Chuck and Kay Ferguson, who cared for him as their own.He graduated from Wahoo High School in 1977. Mitchel’s love for Nebraska and the people he met kept him here, and he settled in the Florence Neighborhood of Omaha where he loved the beautiful countryside, deer that roam freely, and caring long-time neighbors. He was always willing to help others in need, whether it was a family member, co-worker or friend. Many of the friends Mitchel leaves behind meant the world to him, and he was a better man for having known them. Mitchel married Sylvia Kosiba (Gonzales) on November 11, 2011, and became Stepfather and Grandpa to Micah, Veroniqa, Ilyssa, and most recently Jovani and Audrianna. He loved these children as his own and took pride in their accomplishments. Mitchel enjoyed R&B music, working on cars and college football. He also loved the seasons of change Nebraska offers, with summer being his favorite time of year to attend outdoor concerts. He was blessed to experience unconditional love and devotion from his German Shepherd, Capitan, who Mitchel raised from a puppy and had to put down in 2013. The loss was devastating to Mitchel at the time, and Capitan’s ashes will be buried with Mitchel. Mitchel is survived by many relatives in New York, Florida and Puerto Rico. He had many friends, including his work family at Fiserv (First Data Resources) where he worked since September 2015 as a Production Operator. Mitchel will be missed by many, but not forgotten.
