Mildred M Scheef

June 28, 1920 — June 30, 2023

Millie was born number seven of eight children. Her younger sister passed away as an infant. Millie was the last surviving sibling, her sister Dorothy (104) passed away in March 2023. Millie lived a long and truly blessed life. A graduate of Omaha Central High School where she played softball, field hockey, and her lifelong passion volleyball. A female student athlete, with very few options to excel. Raised mostly by her mom and older siblings, during very hard times. Growing up during the great depression gave her a very different appreciation and perspective on life. A very intelligent woman, she was the only child to graduate from high school. Millie was a strong Christian, believing in God and trusted her faith for everlasting life. Always healthy and active. Her love for sports and a strong competitive attitude kept going as she played golf, bowling and cards, with her favorite being Bridge. Playing cards with her was a challenge as she had the ability to count cards and would tell you straight up that you weren’t playing the best way.

Millie and Rich Scheef were high school sweethearts and were happily married for 61 years. They raised three children, Ron, Thom (Marilyn), and Cyndee. Together they enjoyed traveling, attending Husker football games, home and away. Spent many years boating on the Missouri River and Lake of the Ozarks with family and friends.

As a Nebraska Volleyball season ticket holder, she rarely missed a game until just this past year. Her family was her greatest joy and time with them was very important to her. She enjoyed her children, and grandchildren Christie Scheef, David Scheef(deceased), Bill Scheef, Crystal Scheef, Ben Scheef, Todd Earl (Alicia), Jena German. Step grandchildren Tony Deale (Kirstin) and Joshua Deale (Jamie). Great grandchildren: Amanda, Austin, and TJ Scheef, William and Jason Scheef, Colton Phelan, Ava, Olivia and Trevor Earl, Charles, John, Kate and Jacob German, Koston and Quade Deale and Jayna and Jerus Deale.

Millie was proceeded in death by her parents William and Anna Born, husband Richard, and son Thomas, her brothers, and sisters. She is survived by her family, nieces and nephews and friends.

There are so many stories to tell about Milie. She was a very loving and giving person. Volunteering at her church, thrift store, German American Society, and Shriners, always willing to help anywhere or any way that she could. During her last year living at Shalimar Gardens, she made new friends and received great care. Her competitive spirit was also well known as she played Bingo, Wheel of Fortune and any other activity offered.

Millie was loved by all. She was a strong outspoken woman with a competitive spirit, and whose thoughtfulness and kindness were a testament to her true heart.

She will be greatly missed by all.
