Heck, Michael J. “Mike” 12/18/1947 – 4/24/2017 Age 69 years of Omaha Michael Joseph Heck was born on December 18, 1947 in Baltimore, Maryland to parents Joshua and Mercedes Heck. He grew up in Catonsville, Maryland where he attended Saint Mark’s and then went on to Calvert Hall High School, graduating in 1965. Growing up in Baltimore he became a lifelong fan of Ravens football (who shall remain nameless Baltimore Colts) and Oriole’s baseball.Maryland is where he developed his love of the outdoors and camping and American history, especially the Civil War.Summers always included annual trips to Ocean City. Mike earned three graduate degrees and the last being from Johns Hopkins University in School Administration. His career began as a high school history teacher and Lacrosse coach. He proudly took his Severna Park teams to State Championships in his years as “Coach Heck.” To this day, his players still recognize his impact on their successes in life. There are scores of young players that became men under his watch.Following teaching, he became a high school administrator in various high schools in Anne Arundel and Howard Counties. He met and married Cindy Aschinger of Omaha, Nebraska and together they raised three children Rebecca, Michael, and Chris. His children were his pride and joy. In recent years, he saw his children marry the loves of their lives, raising families of their own and becoming successful in their own careers. His most proud moments were the births of his three grandsons. Mike and Cindy had recently moved to Omaha, Nebraska. The past almost 20 years found Mike struggling with Parkinson’s disease. He fought hard but sadly lost the battle on April 24, 2017.The family would like to thank all care givers over the years in Maryland and most recently in Omaha at Westgate Senior Living, Country House Memory Care, and Maple Crest Health Center and Saint Croix Hospice. Mike is survived by his Wife of 44 years, Cindy; Children: Rebecca Heck & husband Tom Zirbel, Mike B. Heck, Chris Heck & wife Julie; Brother Ronald Heck; Grandsons: Taavi, William, Benjamin; Mother-in-law Becky Aschinger; Sister-in-laws Connie Aschinger and Sue Aschinger; Brother-in-law Todd Aschinger & wife Beth; Many other loving relatives & friends.
