Michael A. Higginson

November 29, 1956 — June 15, 2020

Michael Andrew Higginson passed away June 15th, 2020. He was 63 years old. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Higginson, and brothers in law, Scot McCallum and James Norman. He is survived by his wife, Vickey ( Stroud) Higginson, children, Angie (Russell) Clark, Zach (Rachel) Higginson, Aaron Higginson, Kylee (Mike) Fleming, Kellie Higginson and Ryan Higginson and ten grandchildren, Stella, Elijah, Scarlett, Stryker, Levi, Solo, Stephen, Saxon, Vicktor and Fox. Father, Charlie Higginson. Sisters, Cheryl Norman, Lee McCallum, and brothers, Chuck (Connie) Higginson and Steve (Chris) Higginson. As well as by many other family and friends. The family is immensely grieved to say goodbye to Mike. He was a fun-loving guy with a great sense of humor. Sure, he was stubborn too, but he stuck up for the things he believed in and fought hard on behalf of his family and friends. Mike and Vickey were married two weeks shy of their fortieth anniversary. They raised five kids together and enjoyed ten grandchildren. Life with Mike was always fun, always entertaining, and always adventurous. He was a sacrificial husband who worked hard for his family and always kept them laughing. He coached countless soccer and basketball teams throughout the years and attended all the concerts, plays and award programs five kids and so many grandchildren are able to rack up. He was the biggest fan of those he loved. Throughout the years he enjoyed hunting, fishing, golf, Husker football, NASCAR and attending concerts. But if you knew Mike, you knew his greatest love was cars. He was regularly found with blackened, greased-up hands, tinkering with one of his many automotive projects. He was always ready with a tool to borrow or advice to give. He was the family Mr. Fix It. If anything was broken or needed looking after, Mike wouldn’t hesitate to handle it. After a career in technical engineering, he had the opportunity to spend his last few months working at Freestyle Auto—a dream job for him as he was able to specialize in body work and designer engines. One of our favorite memories of Mike is his special relationship with his four-legged, furry companion, Shelby, an American Pitbull. The story goes that after his daughter Kellie “borrowed” his truck to bring home a puppy for herself, all the way from Kansas City, the little pup grew rather attached to Mike instead. The two of them became the best of friends. Mike called Shelby his “little Wookie,” and you could always find her at his side. Mike is most known for his warm, welcoming personality. He gave exceptional hugs and always made everyone feel at home. He was always ready with a big smile and a genuine laugh. We will miss Mike every day until we meet him in Glory. He’s gone too soon, but he’s left a special impact in the lives of those he left behind. Memorials can be made to the family.
