Michael Fricke, age 80, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. A devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and proud United States Air Force veteran, Michael lived a life defined by service, dedication, and deep love for his family.
Michael was born on July 2, 1945, in Ames, Iowa. As a young boy, his family moved to Litchfield, Minnesota, where they laid down roots on a farm. Growing up in rural Minnesota helped shape the strong work ethic and character that would guide him throughout his life. During his youth he was active in 4-H, where he enjoyed baking and raising sheep.
In 1963, Michael proudly enlisted in the United States Air Force and went on to serve his country with honor for 24 years. During his distinguished military career, he served in Vietnam in the areas of Phù Cát and Tân Sơn Nhứt. His service also took him around the world, including assignments in the Philippines, Japan, Korea, Colorado, Alabama, and Nebraska, as well as many other temporary duty assignments. Through dedication and leadership, he rose to the rank of First Sergeant before retiring from the Air Force.
While stationed at Clark Air Force Base in the Philippines, Michael met the love of his life, Adelaida Ramos Ramirez. The two were married on January 8, 1967, beginning a partnership that would span decades and continents.
Together they raised four children: Jenie Lynn, Timothy Ray, Delailah Jane, and Caroline Ramos Ramirez. Life as a military family meant traveling and experiencing many different cultures and places, something Michael was proud to share with his children. He worked tirelessly to provide for his family, often working multiple jobs to ensure they had everything they needed.
Michael loved spending time outdoors and especially cherished golfing and fishing with his family. He remained active for most of his life and enjoyed staying busy and spending time with those he loved until illness slowed him in his final chapter.
One of Michael’s greatest joys was his growing family. He was blessed with seven grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren, all of whom brought him immense pride and happiness.
Michael was preceded in death by his father, George Fricke; his mother, Ruth Fricke; and his brother, Gerald Fricke.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Aida Fricke; his children Jenie (Bob) Egstad, Timothy Fricke, Delailah (Kevin) James, and Caroline Ramos Ramirez Fricke; his brothers John (Margy) Fricke and David (Diane) Fricke; along with many nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren who will cherish his memory.
Michael will be remembered for his quiet strength, unwavering dedication to his family, and faithful service to his country. His legacy lives on in the lives he shaped, the family he loved, and the many memories shared by those who knew him.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
