Matthew Eric Sather, age 51, of Bennington, Nebraska, passed away on September 5, 2025. Matt was born on November, 26, 1973 in Omaha, Nebraska to Gordon and Ruth Bromert Sather. He attended Pinewood Elementary and Nathan Hale Middle School before moving to Blair, Nebraska in 1986 where he attended Blair Jr./Sr. High School. Matt was a multi-sport athlete, playing football, basketball, soccer, and Legion baseball. Matt participated in all of his activities with kindness and his excellent sense of humor, and he formed many life-long friendships. He was proud to be part of the first high school soccer team at Blair High School, as well as a member of the 1992 State Championship Legion Baseball team.
Matt began working at US West in 1996, and continued his career in telecommunications with Lumen Technologies. He worked as a technician in several different roles during that time, and he especially enjoyed working with his data center colleagues. Matt married Amy Nelson in 1996 in Blair, Nebraska. Matt and Amy had the best time raising their three children, Stella, Jack, and Marin. Matt spent time as both a basketball and soccer coach as his kids grew up, and he could always be counted on to correctly predict points and district bracket games. Matt and his family enjoyed countless movies together, and will always love alternative rock because of his great taste in music. He loved his family and friends greatly, and we all loved him just as much.
Matt is survived by his wife, Amy; children, Stella, Jack, and Marin; parents, Gordon and Ruth Sather; sisters, Lizzy (Mike) Bauer and Becky (Tony) Durr; brothers, Andy (Amy) Sather and Mark (Jennifer) Sather; brother-in-law, Ryan (Melissa) Nelson; and seventeen nieces and nephews.
Private family graveside services will be held at the Blair Cemetery.
