MaryAnn L. Steinauer
August 18, 1925 ~ December 3, 2025

MaryAnn (Dahmke) Steinauer was born August 18, 1925, to Fred and Marie Dahmke on a farm near Millard, Nebraska. She grew up on the farm with her brother Chris and sister Thelma. She attended Lane Country School and was valedictorian, at age 16, of the Millard High School graduating class of 1942. She worked on the farm until the late 1940s, when her parents moved into Millard. MaryAnn then worked as a bookkeeper at a farm implement store. In 1950 she met her future husband, Ernie Steinauer, at a dance at the Millrose Inn.

They were soon married and moved to Alameda, CA when Ernie was called up in the Navy Reserves. Their first child, Linda, was born there, and a year later, after Ernie was discharged, they returned to Millard, living in an old house downtown. During the 1950s, their other children (Ernie, Maire, Bob, Teri, and Gerry) were born. In 1958, they built one of the first new homes bordering old Millard. The neighborhood was filled with other young families, and many close friendships were formed among both the parents and children.

MaryAnn began a new chapter in her life when St. John Vianney Church was established in Millard in the early 1970s. She volunteered at church funerals and other functions well into her 90s. She spent her last two years at Brookstone Village nursing home, where she made new friends and was loved and cared for by the kind staff.

MaryAnn loved her family and friends dearly. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy. Although she was a woman of few words, her quiet demeanor and gracious smile touched the hearts of many people.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Ernie; sisters Dorothy and Thelma; brother Chris; and son-in-law Greg. She is survived by her six children: Linda (Bob) Keller, Ernie (Kathleen), Maire Estar, Bob (Beth), Teri Shupe, Gerry (Grace); nine grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, sister-in-law Sheila Schlaebitz, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
