PETERSEN, Marvin Lee 3/5/1945 – 12/27/2021 Marvin was born at home on March 5th, 1945, in Audubon, Iowa. He attended a one room schoolhouse from kindergarten to 2nd grade, and then attended Elk Horn Community School. After his family moved to Atlantic, IA, he finished his senior year of high school and graduated from Atlantic High School in May, 1963.In 1966 he was drafted into the United States Army and served in Vietnam from February 1967-January 1968. Marvin’s son Jason was born in 1971 and in 1972 he began working at Safeway grocery store in Atlantic and in 1975 was promoted to open his own Safeway store in Fremont, Nebraska. Marv and Sharon met at Fremont Lakes in June, 1989 and were married on November 8th, 1993, while on a cruise, then making their home in Omaha, NE. Marv decided to take a big leap of faith and left the grocery business, starting his own vending company in 1992. He had vending machines in upscale business offices in Iowa and Nebraska. While working, he really enjoyed meeting people at the different businesses he served, and his grandkids really enjoyed all the candy that he stored in his basement. Due to health reasons, he retired in 2007. Even though he was born and raised in Iowa, Marv was a huge Nebraska Husker fan and a Nebraska Husker season ticket holder for 28 years. Marv and Sharon traveled with a few other couples all around the United States to follow the Huskers. He was a lifetime member of the VFW and the American Legion. He was very active at FaithWestwood United Methodist Church. He loved being outside and had a beautiful flower garden in his backyard. He enjoyed having neighbors over to hang out in his garage man-cave to watch football. He loved American flags and always had one flying in front of his house with a light shining on it. Marvin is survived by his wife, Sharon; children: Jason Petersen, Tami (Tom) Price, Teresa Watts, Shari Torrance; brother, John (Terri) Petersen; sister, Linda (John) Carlson, many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, other relatives & friends. He was preceded in death by his parents Gaylord and Rosell Petersen, and his sister Kathleen Hohenberger.
