Mark David Schroeder
October 21, 1946 ~ October 4, 2025

Mark was born October 21, 1946, to Wilferd and Arlene Schroeder at Crawford County Memorial Hospital in Denison, Iowa. He grew up on the family farm, attended K through 12, at what would become Charter Oak-Ute Community school. He played tuba in the school band and various ensembles. He was a left handed baseball pitcher in the locally sponsored baseball team.

He was baptized and confirmed at St. John Lutheran Church in Charter Oak, Iowa. In later years at that church he was Sponsor (Godfather) to his baby sister, Denise Wooten, and niece and nephews Dave Stewart, Nicole Schroeder and Chris Schroeder.

He attended Iowa State University at Ames, Iowa, including two years of ROTC. He was a brother of Beta Sigma Psi . He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in accounting. Mark was very proud of his years of service in the army. Upon college graduation he left for Vietnam as a 2nd Lieutenant. He was an officer of Field Artillery and Forward Observer. His short letters home steadily reassured his parents of his safety.

Upon returning home, Mark spent a year as sports photographer for the Denison Bulletin in Denison, Iowa. He enjoyed hunting with his father, brothers, uncle, and friends. He became a state of Iowa bank examiner for several years then moved on to head accountant at Amana Refrigeration in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. When Amana merged, Mark moved to Council Bluffs, Iowa.

He remained a lifelong fan of the Iowa State Cyclones. He enjoyed spending time with his siblings, nieces and nephews. He didn’t miss a holiday meal or family get together followed by a rousing game of cards. He was a tournament winning bridge player and could complete any crossword puzzle put in front of him. He was a master of trivia.

Mark is survived by his older brother Mike Schroeder (Sandy), his younger sisters Lora Heath (Ben), and Denise Wooten, along with nephews Dave Stewart (Shelley), Chris Schroeder (Becky), Scott Wooten, and nieces Kerri Foley (Nick) and Nicole Schroeder (Corey Boyer). He was blessed with grandnephews and grandnieces Reese, Max and Sam Foley, Maren, Gabe and Sam Stewart, Conrad Schroeder, and Makenna Harris. He was preceded in death by his parents and younger brother, Steve Schroeder.

Mark, We will miss you, and we truly thank you for your service. Welcome to your final home. Rest peacefully now.
