Larry Kent Smith

Larry Kent Smith, born on September 27, 1943, passed away on January 4th, 2026.

Preceded in death by his parents, Bud and Ruby Smith; his daughter, Debbie Smith; and his sister, Judy Gray.

He leaves behind a legacy of kindness and love in his wife, Betty Smith; his daughters, Christina (Gavin) Wolfe, Delia Hammers, and Denise Davenport; and his sisters, Connie (Sonny) Bellows and Bonnie (Gene) Sturm. His memory will also be carried on by grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and a large circle of extended family and friends who will miss his helping hand and his steady, loving presence.

Larry was a man who truly defined what it meant to be "salt of the earth". He lived a life rooted in hard work, kindness, and a deep love for his family and the simple pleasures of life.

If you knew Larry, you knew a man who couldn’t sit still if he could help. He was always willing to jump in and assist family, friends, or the neighbor next door- never asking for anything in return. He was a worker through and through, but he knew how to enjoy his downtime, too.

In his younger years, you could find him toting a cap gun, or out hunting as he grew. As time went on, he found his happy place at "the lake house". He spent over 30 years making memories there, enjoying days of boating and the peace of being "out of the city". After retirement, you'd likely find Larry, in his overalls, working in his yard or garden, or perhaps just sitting quietly on the deck watching the birds he loved to feed. He especially enjoyed when the humming birds would make an appearance.

Larry was an avid sports fan. Whether he was cheering on the Huskers, watching Creighton basketball, or rooting for the Kansas City Chiefs, he was always tuned in to the game. When the sports were over, he loved settling in for a good old-fashioned Country Western.

Above all else, Larry was a family man. He cherished the time he spent with his wife, Betty, his daughters, sisters, grandkids and great grandkids. Whether it was a casual afternoon at home or a special gathering with extended family and brother-in-laws, Larry enjoyed the company of loved ones.

Larry didn’t need a spotlight; he just needed a garden to tend, a game to watch, and a family to love. He was a hard worker, a loyal friend, and a truly good man. He will be deeply missed.
