Larry Angelo Bonacci born 3-12-1945 in Omaha, Ne to parents Carmen Bonacci and Shirley Rexilius. He grew up in Omaha with his siblings Kenny and Sharon, and many, many cousins. Larry was called to a life of service. Joining the Navy in 1962. He loved the places he got to go during his tour and had many stories about it. He did not like getting sent to the birds nest because of his stature during a typhoon. Larry did like to tell that his ship is in the opening credits of the movie, The wackiest ship in the Army. After leaving the Navy He then had his own gas station in Witchita, Kansas.
After coming back to Omaha, Larry joined the Army national guard. In 1975 he was burned in a range stove explosion during a summer camp in Colorado. He got a master degree from Bellevue University . On April 8, 1980 he got sober. Larry was very proud of his sobriety and he had 43 years at his time of passing. After getting sober Larry was looking for ways to give back. He was very active in AA at the Millard club. He worked at Millard Good Samaritan as a cook for a few years before finding a job at Thomas Fitzgerald Veterans Home/ Eastern Nebraska veterans home, supervising the kitchen. He retired from there with 28 years of service. Larry and Doris met at Millard Good Samaritan. They were married May 4, 1985. They were saved together, baptized together and enjoyed serving God over the last 30 years at Lifegate Church.
Larry enjoyed reading, collecting rocks and crystals, spending time with family, watching his kids play softball and baseball. He also enjoyed the Boy Scouts being an assistant scout master for many years. Larry had the biggest heart of anyone you’d ever meet. You could ask him to do anything for you and he would show up.
Larry is survived by his wife Doris Matthews Bonacci, his children Tracy Edison,Rhonda O’Banion and spouse Rodney O’Banion, Nicholas Bonacci. Sister Sharon Bonacci Schultz and spouse Douglas Schultz. Many grandchildren and nieces and nephews that he adored.Preceded in death by his parents, his brother Kenneth Bonacci and son Rick Edison.
Larry went home to the Lord on 3-2-2024 he was 78 years old.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Larry's memory may be given to the Disabled American Veterans (DAV) or Urology Cancer Center
