Kathleen “Kathy” Diane Jorgensen (September 14, 1943 – July 3, 2026)
Kathy was called to God’s home on July 3, 2026. Born to Fred and Maxine (Weesner) Heldenbrand on September 14, 1943, she grew up in rural Wauneta, Nebraska. On June 10, 1962, she married the love of her life, Duane Jorgensen, and together they raised four children.
Wherever Kathy and Duane put down roots—Wauneta, Clatonia, Wilber, Friend, Bassett, and Omaha—Kathy poured herself into the community. She was active in P.E.O., the American Legion Auxiliary, and United Methodist Church groups. Gifted and hardworking, she shared her many talents through roles in floral design, cake decorating, a local newspaper print office, the library, and store management. She also earned her EMT certification. Kathy played a big role at Wilber Czech Days festivities for 26 years. She was the wife of “The Leader of the Band”, Duane Jorgensen (2011). She cherished this event every year. Last year, she and some family members were Grand Marshals of the parade.
Above all, Kathy treasured her faith, family, and close friends. After a stroke at age 62 took away her ability to drive, she met the challenge with determination—working tirelessly to regain speech, writing, and cooking skills. Though life changed, her spirit of service and involvement never wavered.
Kathy is survived by her children: Kim Lemcke (Kory) and granddaughter Mackenzie of Omaha, NE. Kay John (Joseph) and grandchildren Amanda and Dustin of Omaha, NE. Keo Jorgensen (Amy Kenkel) and grandchildren Trey, Devon, Benjamin, and Neena of Bennington, NE. Dean Jorgensen (Ann) and grandchildren Donovan, Cassidy, Calvin, and Vivian of Bennington,NE. She is also survived by her brothers Tom Heldenbrand and Rick Heldenbrand (Lee Ann); four great‑grandchildren (Landon, Christian, Myla and Liam); and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Duane; her parents, Fred and Maxine (Weesner) Heldenbrand; brother Rodney Heldenbrand; and sisters‑in‑law Jolene Heldenbrand and Norma Heldenbrand.
