Karen Smolinski was born on August 19, 1952, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Wayne and Phyllis Wingerson. She was raised in Omaha, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and a deep love for those around her.
Karen married Richard Smolinski, and together they shared 56 wonderful years of marriage. They had two children, Shawnette and Chad, whom Karen cherished deeply. She was a devoted wife, loving mother, and proud grandmother whose greatest joy came from spending time with her family and creating lasting memories with those she loved.
Karen dedicated much of her life to education and caring for others. She worked as a teacher at St. Bernard Catholic School, Holy Name Catholic School, and Boys Town Omaha Home for Boys, where she touched the lives of many students through her kindness, patience, and dedication. Outside of her professional life, Karen enjoyed arts and crafts, decorating for the holidays, and expressing her creativity in ways that brought joy to family and friends.
She is survived by her beloved husband, Richard Smolinski; daughter, Shawnette (Michael) Mai; son, Chad Smolinski; and grandchildren, Rachel, Angelene, Nigel, Ethan, and Aron. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by her family, friends, and all who were blessed to know her.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Phyllis Campbell; her stepfather, Jack Campbell; and her grandmother Laurel.
