Julia "Julie" Shaw

February 8, 1962 — July 10, 2020

Julie Ann Marie Shaw was born February 8th, 1962 at Doctor’s Hospital in Omaha Nebraska. She was the fourth of five children born to the late Richard Lee & Verna Lee Shaw.Julie and her brothers (Matthew, Range, Bowman & John) shared their childhood together in the Hanscom Park area while growing up on Shirley Street. Her family moved to Jefferson City, Missouri for a time before returning in 1976.They took up residence in the La Vista area, where she attended La Vista Junior High School and Papillion High School, graduating in 1980. Julie was industrious from a young age and had jobs throughout her high school years, which included working as a clerk in the Sarpy County Assessor’s office. After her graduation from Papillion, she quickly joined the full-time workforce as an office professional. She worked in BVH Architecture’s Omaha office for several years. It was at a BVH Christmas party that she met a young architectural intern from BVH’s Lincoln office…Donald Bartels.Julie and Don were married at Rejoice Lutheran Church in West Omaha in December 1985.Following their nuptials, they relocated to Boston to pursue their career dreams together. While in Boston, Julie worked for many years at the Gund Partnership Architecture Firm as an office manager and executive assistant. After several years there, she was engaged as an executive assistant with Fidelity Investments. She worked for Fidelity’s Pembroke Real Estate business unit until returning back to Omaha in 2016. The highlight of Julie’s life happened in Boston on June 11, 1998.Julie gave birth to her only child, Cole Arthur Bartels.Cole was, quite simply, the light of Julie’s world. She was his biggest supporter, fiercest protector and loving provider. There was never a moment that Julie would not give all that she had to help Cole. There was never a prouder moment for Julie then when Cole signed his baseball scholarship to play for Penn State. She followed his progress relentlessly and always spoke proudly of how he was doing and the man that he was becoming. She will undoubtedly be with Cole at every at-bat, screaming from the stands, as well as in his quietest moments. Julie was most comfortable in the company of friends, sharing funny stories and laughing. She never met a party that she was not happy to join.During those times, her laugh was constant and infectious. She will be missed by all that knew her and that shared time with her in this life. Julie leaves to cherished memories her Son: Cole Bartels of Boston; Brothers: Matthew Shaw of Beatrice, Range (Bill) Shaw of Phoenix, Bowman (Florence) Shaw of Chicago, John (Christa) Shaw of Chicago; Nieces: Taylor Shaw, Lauren Shaw, Emma Shaw; Nephews:Cameron Shaw, Andrew Shaw, Samuel Shaw; numerous extended relatives and from each side of her family, and friends.
