Josie Bertha Harrell

Born Josie Bertha Harrell in 1925 to Lillie Morrison and Eddie Johnson in Boley, Oklahoma, Josie was the youngest of eight children. She was known for her spunk and tenacity, never content to remain in anyone’s shadow—a true pioneer in her own right.
Josie lived between Las Vegas, Nevada, and Albuquerque, New Mexico, with her husband, Lester Harrell. After Lester’s passing, she later relocated to Omaha, Nebraska, where she resided with her nephew, Bassie Johnson, and his wife, Margie Johnson. She eventually outlived them both and was later cared for by her great-niece and great-nephew, Karen K. Jackson and Steven T. Johnson.

She is preceded in death by many beloved family members and survived by others who continue to honor her legacy.
