Joanne taught elementary school for 32 years. She taught one year in West Carrolton, Ohio, 8 years in Long Beach, California and 23 years at District 1-R in Grand Island, Nebraska. Joanne was also a long time member of the Southwest YMCA.

Preceded in death by husband, Roger D. Burns; granddaughter Emma Patricia Burns; brothers William and Stan Kolb.

She is survived by sons Kevin and Keith (Paula) Burns; grandchildren Sarah “Sally” (Brian) Sommer, Eric (Jordan), Ryan (Kristiann), Mark (Alyssa), and Jena Burns; great-grandchildren Anson Sommer, Emma Lynne Burns; Bodie Burns and Briar Dougherty; sister, Patricia Amlin.

Celebration of Joanne’s life: Friday, May 3, 2024, at 11:00 AM at First United Methodist Church (7020 Cass St.) with a visitation starting at 10:30 AM.

Private family Inurnment: Omaha National Cemetery

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First United Methodist Church or Rally! Foundation for Childhood Cancer Research (https://rallyfoundation.org/)
