Joanna MacLeod Murray

October 13, 1930 - July 27, 2025

The family of Joanna MacLeod Murray sadly announce her passing on July 27, 2025, at the marvelous age of 94.  She died at home surrounded by her loving family. Born in Glasgow, Scotland to Mary Ann and Kenneth MacLeod she survived the perils of WWII, finished school, and began her first job at Rolls-Royce. At age 19 she found the love of her life Alexander Murray. They married in 1954 and immigrated to Omaha, NE in 1955.

Joanna worked for over 25 years at AT&T while raising her family of four children. She was active in various school, church, and community activities throughout her life. She was a founding member of the Scottish Society of Nebraska, and held several offices, including president, with the Social Order of Beauceant. She loved gardening, knitting, reading, and dancing. Her unwavering faith, unbending courage, and unconditional love graced all who knew her.

Joanna was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and brother. She is survived by her sister, Dr. Anne Cognard and brother-in-law, Dr. Roger Cognard, her four children: Helen Jacobsen (Mark), Kenneth Murray, Joanna Murray, and Heather Murray-Harding, 12 adoring grandchildren, 7 grandchildren in law, 9 delightful great-grandchildren, and numerous loving nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Joanna’s incredible life is planned for Sunday, August 31. In lieu of flowers, we invite memorials in her name to organizations which foster joy and expand goodness in our community through Share Omaha (www.shareomaha.org). Her legacy lives within all of those whose lives she touched.
