July 24, 1931 – January 11, 2026
Preceded in death by parents, George and Zelma Coons and son Robert G. Lonnecker. Survived by husband Robert E. Lonnecker, children Rebecca Berg (Rich), Karen Tompsett (Steve) and Carol Brush (Mike). Grandchildren Toby Pacer (Tom), Joanna Tefft (Sam), Erin Chytil (Tommy), Timothy Tompsett (Ariel), James Brush (Michele), Stephanie Berve (Brendan). Sister Sylvia Coons and brother Frank Coons (Suzi). Seventeen great grandchildren, many nieces, nephews and friends.
Joanna was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa and graduated from Abraham Lincoln. She met the love of her life, Bob, on a blind date and married him in 1952. Their marriage spanned 73 years. Together they had four children, Becky, Bob, Karen and Carol.
Joanna had many interesting jobs, including an assembly line at a food processing facility, and a stint at Northwestern Bell where she had hoped to be a telephone operator. Unfortunately they would only hire right-handed people for that job. She ultimately began work at Nebraska Federal, which later merged with American Charter, and retired in 1992. She and Bob immediately began their world travels and had amazing, wonderful adventures.
Joanna had a lifetime love of cooking, dancing, gardening, sewing, travel, playing the piano, and spending time with friends and family. Her gardens were the envy of the neighborhood, and she would spend hours cultivating beautiful flowers and always had a vegetable patch.
One of her greatest joys was sewing. She could sew anything from a tablecloth to a wedding dress. She also loved to quilt and participated with a quilting group that met every Monday to work on quilts together for many years.
She laughed often, loved deeply, and will be greatly missed by friends and family.
Celebration of Joanna's Life: Monday, January 19 at 11 am, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at Braman Mortuary Millard Chapel, 6505 S 144th St., Omaha, NE
