Joan "Jody" Hanke

Joan "Jody" Hanke, February 21, 1942 ~ August 1, 2025

Joan Jean “Jody” Hanke was born on February 21, 1942, in Omaha, Nebraska, to Joseph and Matilda Belohrad. She grew up in Clarkson, NE, as one of six beloved daughters.

On June 3, 1967, Jody married Dale Hanke. Together they built a beautiful life, raising three amazing children who continue to carry forward her legacy of kindness, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Jody had a deep and abiding love for God, her children Brian, Shayla, and Stacy, and her cherished grandchildren Clayton, Bryce, Cameron, Wyatt, and Tate. She began each day as a prayer warrior, lifting up everyone in her life with intention and love. Her radiant energy, joyful spirit, and ever-present smile left a lasting impression on all who knew her. Her laughter was contagious and her positive attitude unwavering, even during the hardest moments.

She found great joy and purpose in her work at All About Kidz Daycare, where she spent 15 years nurturing little ones and forming wonderful friendships. She cherished every celebration, especially birthdays, often marked by sombreros and singing.

In her final chapter, Jody faced an ALS diagnosis with strength and grace. She called the disease “BS,” which is her way of acknowledging its cruelty without letting it steal her light. True to her nature, she remained hopeful, joyful, and filled with love. These months were marked by precious memories, “Hanke Happy Hours,” family manicures & pedicures, and a memorable trip to Steamboat that her family will treasure forever.

Jody was preceded in death by her parents and sisters, Betts Palmisano and Darlene Miller. She is survived by her children: Brian (Erin) Hanke, Shayla Kriha, and Stacy (Brian) Mejak; and her grandchildren: Clayton, Bryce, Cameron, Wyatt, and Tate.

While there are too many friends and family to name, the family wants to especially thank Jody’s caregiver, Keirsten Beyers, Brookstone Home Health for exceptional care, and the Lighthouse at Lakeside for providing comfort and peace in her final days.

Jody’s legacy lives on in the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the faith she held dear. She has earned her wings for that special place God prepared for her.
