Jeffrey David Nelson, affectionately known as “Jeff” to family and friends, passed away peacefully in Omaha, Nebraska, on August 16, 2025, at the age of 55, due to complications of multiple sclerosis. Jeff’s bright spirit, quick wit and enduring sense of humor left a lasting imprint on everyone fortunate enough to know him. Born on June 10, 1970, in Omaha, Jeff was the cherished son of Larry Nelson (deceased) and Karrol Nelson and brother to Eric Nelson. From a young age, Jeff exhibited a boundless curiosity and a playful nature. His passion for history, coupled with endless hours spent poring over books and documentaries, fueled many spirited debates at family gatherings and friendly get-togethers.
Professionally, Jeff dedicated over two decades to the health insurance field. Jeff was especially fond of fishing—the quiet patience required always suited him, as did the joy of sharing a good catch story. Equally at home over a chessboard, Jeff relished the challenge of each game. Another of his great pleasures was participating in fantasy football leagues with friends, where his lighthearted banter and competitive streak were always on full display.
Jeff’s absence will be deeply felt by all who had the privilege to know him. He is survived by his mother, Karrol and brother Eric (Linette), nephews Tristan, Bryce (Katie) and Bryan (Sarah) along with many aunts, uncles, cousins and cherished friends.
In lieu of funeral services, Jeff’s family invites those wishing to honor his memory to make a donation to the National MS Society or Legal Aid of Nebraska, organizations that reflect his resilient spirit and desire to support others facing adversity.
As we remember Jeff—his humor, his heart, his love of life—let us take comfort in these words: “So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy and we will find grace to help us when we need it.” Hebrews 4:16.
