Janice Mae Shoemaker, 93, passed away peacefully August 17, 2026, in Ashland, NE where she resided the last 6 years of her life. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 65 years, Howard Wilson Shoemaker, Jr., Omaha, son Brian Dean Shoemaker, Omaha, father Martin W. Smith, IA, mother Ina M. Smith, CA, brother Scott Smith, CA, and sister Bonnie Mack, IA. Janice is survived by 5 children, Cindi Cole, VA, Eric Shoemaker, Omaha, Mareaeric Campagna (Chris) Omaha, Heidimarie Levasseur (Dan) VA, and Hannelore Scott (Gaylen), Fremont. She is survived by 13 grandchildren and 21 great grandchildren.
Janice was born in Council Bluffs, IA and moved to Omaha, NE after she married her best friend and soulmate, Howard. Janice worked in sales for several years in the Old Market, a familiar place where you could always find her and Howard walking together. One of her greatest passions was photography, capturing candid moments of her family everywhere she went. She faithfully attended Westminster Presbyterian Church.
After living 57 years in their family home, Janice enjoyed her quiet life at Oxbow Living Center in Ashland, NE. It reminded her of going back home to the farm when she was little.
Janice was a beautiful person, who will be greatly missed. Her light, kindness, gentleness, love, positivity, wisdom and joy is something we will cherish forever.
