James I. Harris
February 14, 1947 - February 23, 2026
James passed away Monday, February 23, 2026 in Omaha, Nebraska at the age of 79. He was born in Iowa City, Iowa to the late Ivan and LaVonne Harris. James, (Jim) grew
up in Sioux City, Iowa and also lived in Springdale, AR several years before moving to Omaha, NE. For the majority of his working days, he spent over 30 years delivering the Thrifty Nickel, which later became The American Classifieds. He made many friends with co-workers there, as well as with the customers and owners of the many stores he served. He always brought a smile to the people he encountered with his love of teasing and joking.
Jim's favorite hobby was collecting die cast cars and trucks, and he certainly had many. From 1:64 to 1:18 he could fill the entire perimeter of his living room with them -
and he did! He also had nearly every other kind of model car you can imagine including model kits and puzzle cars he put together, dozens and dozens of matchbox cars, and an infinite number of model cars, trucks, and trains of all kinds.
Jim is preceded in death by both his parents, a brother and sister-in-law Dale (Cindy) Harris, as well as a nephew Cody Harris. He is survived by his sister, Barbara Vitek, brother, Terry (Cyndi) Harris, niece Bodi (Sean) Kinney, nephews Kevin (Susan) Harris, Shannon (Michelle) Saltzman, Dustin (Malina) Harris, many grand nieces and nephews, and also including many great, grand nieces and nephews.
Jim will be missed by many.
