James Hogan Glenn, (November 2, 1943 - January 17, 2026)

Born James Arthur Hogan to Virginia Westergard Hogan and Lt. James Tracey Hogan. His father was killed on a flying mission in 1944. His mother married William Fay Glenn who adopted Jim at age three. Jim changed his name to James Hogan Glenn honoring his deceased father.

Jim graduated St. Margaret Mary elementary and entered Creighton Prep the fall of 1957. He earned a B.A. from Creighton University in 1965 and an M.A. in history in 1967. He chose a career in the Foreign Service in 1971.

Jim worked 27 years at the State Department and served postings worldwide: Mexico, the USSR, Portugal, Italy, Venezuela, Ireland and Belgium. A notable achievement was in Moscow during the Cold War, where he assisted Jewish citizens in relocating from Russia and helped smuggle out the writings of Nobel Peace Prize laureate Dr. Andrei Sakharov. He also helped broker peace in Northern Ireland.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, James Tracey Hogan and Virginia Glenn; his stepfather, William F. Glenn; and siblings Brian Glenn and Diana Glenn Svehla. He is survived by his wife, Waltraud Glenn; daughter Kirsten (Bernd) Glenn; stepdaughter Sigrid (Richard) Sauer-Cvikl; grandchildren Marlene Sauer and Jakob Glenn; sisters Lisa (Tom) Wurtz, Joyce Glenn, Pennie Glenn; brothers Rev. William (Scott Hafner) Glenn of Santa Rosa, Calif; Gregory Glenn and John (Sonya) Glenn; nieces and nephews Staci (Andy) Grier, Laura Andresen, Brian (Dana Stroul) Glenn Jr., April (Russ) Gamelin, Amanda (Ted) Stessman, Katie Austerman, Patrick (Sam Lord) Glenn, and Elizabeth Glenn and many great-nieces, great-nephews and cousins.

The family is deeply grateful to the staff at Liebhartstal in Vienna for its compassionate care for the past two plus years. A Memorial Liturgy will be held March 19, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Trinity Episcopal Cathedral, 113 North 18th Street in Omaha with a lunch to follow.
