Ivan Frank Novak
March 21th, 1938 to July 24,2026
Ivan Frank Novak was born March 21. 1938 to Frank and Edna Novak in Herrick, SD. At age 2, Ivan's family moved from the South Dakota farm to the town of Verdigre, Nebraska, where they ran a local tavern.
After graduating from high school in Verdigre, lvan enlisted in the Navy, where he served from 1955 to 1959, primarily aboard the USS Saratoga CVA6O. Following his military service, lvan attended community college in Norfolk, NE, and spent a year studying business.
Ivan was working at Armour & Company in 1960 when he met his future wife and lifelong love, Jean Bruning, at Sokol Hall. They were married in 1961 and later moved to Springfield, Nebraska, to raise their family. During this time, Ivan began his work as an accountant in payroll for Burlington Northern Railroad also serving as Chief of Police for the town of Springfield. After a couple of transfers with the railroad, he eventually relocated the Novak Family to their acreage near Crete, NE.
While living on the acreage, Ivan enjoyed his favorite activities of hunting, fishing, polka dancing, playing pinochle, and spending time with family He retired after 35 years of work at Burlington Northern Railroad. Ivan passed from this earth 16 days after celebrating his 65" Wedding Anniversary with Jean.
lvan was preceded in death by his parents, Frank and Edna Novak, and his sister, Lila Schueth. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Novak, sons Perry, David and Kevin; daughters Teresa, Angela, and Kathleen, and also 9 grandchildren.
Ivan will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
