Helen M. Owen

Helen Mary Owen, March 22, 1948 - August 26, 2025. Helen Owen passed away peacefully at her residence in Papillion, Nebraska. Helen was born on March 22, 1948 in Dorchester, Massachusetts, to Tom and Helen (Kenney) Byrne.
She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Donna Stendig, and her loving husband of more than 40 years, Harry Owen. She is survived by her children, Lowell (Aimee) Owen and Everett (Kristina) Owen; grandchildren Asher, Lenora, Margot, and Rosalind; siblings Marylyn Wilk and Thomas Byrne Jr., and many more family and friends.Helen grew up in the Boston area, the oldest of four siblings. After finishing her undergraduate studies at Emmanuel College, in Boston, Helen pursued her Master’s degree at Framingham State College. She met the love of her life, Harry Owen while they were both at Purdue University in Indiana. The couple married in 1973, living first in West Lafayette, IN, and then in St. Paul, MN. They eventually settled in Omaha, where Helen worked as a dietitian for Bergen Mercy Hospital from 1987 until she retired in 2014. Helen was active in retirement, volunteering at her grandchildren’s school and with hospice patients. She enjoyed taking long daily walks, reading, and working with her spinning wheels.
