Gary Lee Walls, aged 77, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on June 23, 2026. He fought a courageous battle this last year and will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gary’s journey began on May 1, 1949, in Pottawattamie County, Council Bluffs, Iowa. Gary grew up to be a truck driver and moved furniture for over 50 years, retiring from Ford Van Lines.
Twelve years ago, he lost his wife and soulmate, Bonnie Lou Walls. Gary remained fiercely faithful to Bonnie, proving that true love never actually fades — after more than a decade apart, Gary has finally reunited with his “Louie”. We know she met him at the pearly gates with “Love Me Tender” playing in the background as they embraced.
For Gary, his Saturday ritual during football season was wearing red and screaming at the TV cheering for the Huskers. And, his Sundays were dedicated to shouting "Who Dey!" for his beloved Bengals.
Beyond his love for football Gary’s greatest legacy was his giving heart for animals, his humor and fart jokes will be proudly carried on by his family and friends.
Gary was blessed with many friends who became family throughout his life, including his work family at Schrier Ford, his family of neighbors, his church family at King of Kings, and his beloved neighbor dog, Romeo.
He is survived by his daughters Trisha Phillips and Amy Svoboda (Tim); grandchildren Tyson Svoboda (Danielle), Trevor Svoboda (Cassie Florido), Logan Phillips (Dez Ayon-Aguilar), Hannah Rose Phillips; great-grandchild Gibson Reed Svoboda; sister Patty McElderry (Ted); aunt (who was like a sister) Diane Williams; sister-in-law Melody Walls; many cousins and extended family.
Gary was preceded in death by his parents, Dorrance and Marilyn Walls and his brothers, Wayne and Steven Walls. We can only imagine the joyful reunion taking place as they are all together once again.
Gary will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him. We will especially miss his terrible jokes, his unwavering stubbornness, and his chaotic game-day rituals that always brought us so much laughter and fond memories.
A graveside service for Gary, Bonnie and their beloved rescue dogs (Bubba Rae, Daisy Mae, Honey Buns and Orphan Annie) is pending — details will be announced at a later date.
Please direct donations in his name to any animal rescue. His family would also ask that you dress in Husker RED, open a cold drink, and cheer extra loud this upcoming season in Gary’s honor.
Go Big Red!
