Eugene P. Horan

Eugene (Gene) P. Horan of Omaha, NE passed away on August 21, 2026 at Methodist Hospital.Gene was born August 23, 1938 at Oelwein, IA. At the age of ten, Gene came to Boystown. While attending Boystown, Gene played sports and sang in the famous Boystown choir which traveled across the country.He attend Iowa State Teachers College and obtained his teaching degree. His first job was at Horace Mann in Omaha followed by returning to Boystown as a high school math teacher. Gene taught and coached track at Boystown until his retirement in 2002; however, he continued assisting with track for several years after his teaching retirement, positively impacting many lives over the years. Gene loved telling stories, playing cards, he had a quick wit, he loved to sing, especially to the Eagles and dance. He was a dedicated Husker football and Creighton basketball fan. He was an avid walker as many would see him heading south on 144th street.He is survived by his wife Jan, son Rick (Cheryl) Horan of Phillipsburg, PA, daughter Cindi Horan of Omaha, step daughter Deb (Brent) Edwards of Indianapolis, IN and step son Scott Doepke of Chandler, Az, two grandchildren Kelsey and Zac and two step grandchildren Ally and Cash, one sister Jenelle Pearson of Spring Valley, MN and a godson Ernest (Bo) Boamah-Wiafe in addition to numerous friends and his Boystown family. 

Funeral services will be at the Dowd Chapel at Boystown on August 29, 2026 at 11:00 am. Internment will be at a later date. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to BTNAASF Gene Horan which is a scholarship to be established in Gene’s name for a track athlete.
