Ervin A. Andrews

7/18/1939 - 12/30/2025

Ervin Andrews, born July 18,1939, in Hollenberg, Kansas, passed away on December 30, 2025, in Omaha, Nebraska. He was 86 years old. He was born to Harold C Andrews & Irma G Gould Andrews. He was the oldest of five children with three brothers and one sister. His brothers are Alfred, Jerry, and Keith. His sister is Carol.

Ervin’s early years were shaped by the rhythms of rural life on a farm near the Nebraska–Kansas state line. His childhood instilled in him a deep appreciation for hard work and perseverance—values that would guide him throughout his life. He began his education at Latham School before moving with his family closer to Hollenberg, where he attended Pleasant Hill School through eighth grade. The family later relocated just north of the Kansas border into Nebraska, and Ervin completed two years of high school in Kansas before graduating from Diller High School in Nebraska in 1957.

Following high school, Ervin pursued technical training at Southeast Community College in Milford, Nebraska. He graduated in 1959 with a degree as an Electrical Technician. Shortly thereafter, he began his career at Western Electric in Omaha as a maintenance electrician and control systems technician—a role he would return to with dedication after serving his country.

On January 6, 1962, Ervin married Barbara Jean Richardson, beginning a lifelong partnership rooted in love and mutual support. Their journey together soon led them overseas when Ervin was drafted into the U.S. Army on April 8, 1963. Assigned to the 34th General Hospital in Orléans, France, he was joined by Barbara just one month later. Their first child, James Andrews, was born abroad on August 19, 1964. In early 1965, Barbara and James returned home to Council Bluffs while Ervin completed his service. He was honorably discharged from active duty on March 30, 1965.

Returning to civilian life with steadfast commitment to both family and profession, Ervin resumed his work at Western Electric. The couple welcomed their second son, Richard Andrews, in Council Bluffs. In September 1969, they moved into their new home in Millard—a place that became the heart of countless cherished memories. Their daughter, Julie, was born there.

A man of enduring faith and community spirit, Ervin was a longtime member of FaithWestwood United Methodist Church following the family’s move to Millard in 1969. His involvement with the church spanned more than five decades and reflected his deep-rooted values and commitment to service. He also maintained strong ties with fellow veterans through his membership in American Legion Post 374.

Ervin’s life was marked by devotion—to his family, his work, his country, and his faith community. He is remembered by those who knew him for the quiet strength with which he lived each day.

He is survived by his brother, Jerry(Karolyn) Andrews, Keith(Romana) Andrews; sister, Carol Hinz; brother-in-law, Ron Loehr, daughter, Julie(Stacy) Gibson; his son, Richard(Rachel) Andrews; his grandson, Jared(Allegra) Gibson; his granddaughter, Katelyn(Austin) Garrett; his great-granddaughters, Alaina, Octavia, Oakley Garrett; many nephews, and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Barbara Andrews; his parents, Harold and Irma Andrews; his brother, Alfred Andrews, and sister-in-law, Sherrie Andrews; his son, James Andrews; his sister-in-law, Mary Loehr; and his brothers-in-law, Ward Richardson, Bill Richardson, Leroy Richardson, and Dale Hinz.

May Ervin Andrews’ memory bring comfort to all who knew him and serve as a lasting reminder of a life well lived.
