Donald E. Walters 4/24/1930 - 9/2/2019 Donald E. Walters, age 89, passed away Monday, September 2, 2019 surrounded by family. Donald Eugene Walters was born on April 24, 1930 to Jesse Marie (Fox) Walters and Delbert Clark Walters in Nebraska City, Nebraska and lived in Avoca, Nebraska on a farm.He was the second of four children.Donald’s family moved to Omaha, in August of 1933 with his two siblings, Dorothy and Ivan.Delbert “Bud” joined the family in December of 1933.The family attended Wheeler Presbyterian Church. Donald was raised in South Omaha, where he attended Rosewater Elementary School, through the eighth grade.He graduated from South High School in 1948.His family attended Park Forest Presbyterian Church.Don worked as a sales clerk at Alaex Clothing Store from 1945-1948. Donald enlisted in the Army on the 30th of August 1948, where he and three of his best buddies spent one year in training for eighteen year olds.In 1950, Donald was called to go to the war in Korea along with his three friends.One of his buddies, John, did not come home and is still MIA.In the later years, he often spoke of John.Donald was a Radio Radio Operator while in the service serving two tours of duty in Korea.He completed his active duty on the 11th of December 1951.He was honorably discharged on the 10th of June, 1952. Upon his return from the war, he met the love of his life and on May 29, 1952, Donald married Dorothy Joann Vosler, in Galva, Iowa.After a honeymoon in Colorado, Don and Joann settled in Omaha, Nebraska, where they lived their entire lives.They were married for 63 years.Together they had four children, Debbie (Ed), Bruce (Marcia), John (Cathy) and Dan (Mary).“Grandpa Red” had 6 grandchildren: Danielle, Travis (Brooke); Micaela (Adam), Trevor (Kayla); Kari, and Kelly. “Great-Grandpa Red” had 6 great grandchildren:Jace; Mason, Reagan, William, Asher; and 22 month old Evelyn who called him “Ra-Ra!” Donald was a Retired Plumber of Local 16, where he made a career plumbing many commercial jobs in the city of Omaha, Nebraska and surrounding areas.He was proud to have learned a trade to build a lifelong career. Donald’s hobbies included fixing just about anything and his joy was building a boat of mahogany wood.He enjoyed fishing, camping, boating, and water skiing well into his 60’s with family and friends.Don also loved music and learned piano at a young age then as an adult ventured on to playing the organ.He was a real gentleman with a kind, calm, and caring spirit who encouraged you to learn and would help anyone out.Don always showed a love for his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his wife Joann; brother Ivan Walters and sister Dorothy Hlousek.He is survived by daughter, Debbie (Ed) Major; sons, Bruce (Marcia) Walters, John (Cathy) Walters, Dan (Mary) Walters; brother, Delbert “Bud” Walters; grandchildren, Danielle, Travis (Brooke), Kari, Kelly, Micaela (Adam), Trevor (Kayla); great grandchildren, Jace, Mason, Reagan, William, Asher, and Evelyn. Many nieces, nephews, family and friends.
