Diane Elaine (White) Zipay

Diane Elaine W. Zipay, 80, of Omaha, Nebraska, passed away on July 14, 2026. She was born on January 24, 1946, in Rinard, Illinois, to Samuel and Isa White.

She is survived by her sons, André Zipay and his wife Kimberly; grandson Jack Zipay and his wife Sydney; grandson Henry Zipay and his fiancee Cara Pisasale; son Kyle G. Zipay; grandson Tyler Zipay; and granddaughter Ava Zipay. Diane is also survived by her brother, Larry White and his wife Robbie. Her extended family includes nephews Jeff White and his wife Heidi, Dr. Chris Hempel and his wife Kara; niece Kimberly Deane and her husband Tom; and their parents, Robert and Dorothy Hempel. She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel and Isa White, and her brother, Gregory White.

Diane grew up in Flora, IL, where she graduated from Flora Township High School in 1963, participating in numerous clubs ranging from science to English. She continued her education at Southern Illinois University (Carbondale), earning her BA in English in 1967. She shared her passion for reading by becoming a teacher and a librarian.

Diane lived in Omaha, NE, for the remainder of her years. She raised her two sons, André and Kyle, while working as a librarian and teacher at Conestoga Elementary School in the Omaha Public Schools, inspiring countless children over her 34-year career. She retired early to care for her grandchildren and always lent a helping hand.

Diane was an avid sports fan, loyally cheering for the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Blues. Her love of sports also brought her great joy to watch her sons and grandchildren play, cheering from the stands with pride.

The final chapter of Diane's life was spent reading, spending time with her grandchildren, and engaging with her 55+ community. She served as the librarian for her retirement community and frequently visited her local library; she was never without a book in her hand. Whenever a book club or a current read was mentioned, she always had a recommendation or review ready, and she consistently showered her grandchildren with children's books.

Diane will be deeply missed by all the lives she touched, including her three grand-dogs, Dustin, Bruin, and Fenway, whom she spoiled for many years with treats, toys, and cuddles.
